Welcome 2014!

2013 was busy.  It was lovely and fun and exciting and hard, but mostly – busy.  However, I failed to capture all of those lovely moments by not blogging.  I think part of my problem was my smart phone!  I was able to take so many pictures on it this past year but never transferred them over.  Well, no more!  I still have the intention of going back and filling in all the blanks, but I’m not going to do it at the expense of recording this coming year.

Who are we right now?!

Earlier in 2013, Graham started a position with the Attorney General’s office in Delaware and was working as a Domestic Violence prosecutor.  His judge was very kind and released him from his clerking obligations early so that he could take this opportunity.  We are so grateful that she allowed him to do so.  Taking this position was a gamble though.  It came with no benefits.  This means no health insurance, no vacation time, no sick days, etc.  We had hoped, and were somewhat advised, that we would receive full-time status within 1 or 2 months.  However, that just didn’t happen fast enough.  So, in early July, Graham applied for a full-time criminal prosecutor position in Sussex County (about 2 hours south).  Monday morning of the 3rd week of July, Graham was interviewed for the position.  That evening, I drove to Girls’ Camp as an advisor.  On Tuesday, Graham called me at the camp to let me know they had offered him the position.  On Wednesday, he accepted.

Changes come quickly!  We found and closed on our house in 35 days.  We live in Millsboro, Delaware now.  Things are slower and quieter down here.  We actually quite like it.  There are only a few drawbacks, but they are all survivable.  Except maybe the lack of a Target…

Sam started 2nd grade.  He is too smart for his own good.  His grades are excellent, but his behavior sometimes gets him in trouble.  He has learned to burp on command and is a little of a clown.  He just started indoor soccer and we’ll see if this holds his interest longer than baseball did.  He really would like to play football, but he’s just too little right now.

Ellen is a firecracker.  She is sassy and smart and sweet and clever.  She is so anxious to start Kindergarten.  We are considering starting her in gymnastics.  She is very energetic and brave.  She also has a strong, but compact body.  It could end up being a perfect fit.  In the meantime, she is still very anti-pink and thinks she’ll be a skateboarder someday.

Anna, out of them all, has changed so much!  She is so big.  She still is so cuddly and affectionate.  However, she has a vocabulary now!  She is also very much a Daddy’s girl.  We try to avoid waking her for breakfast until Graham leaves because she’s a wreck when he does.  She is my girly-girl.  She loves to dance and sing.  She loves pink and purple.  And recently, she’s developed a Minnie Mouse obsession.  It’s pretty adorable.

Lastly, there’s me.  Although I finished my degree in June, because of a lot of paperwork confusion, my degree wasn’t technically awarded until December.  Lovely, right?  The piece of paper that signifies a lot of student loans and a lot of work should be arriving in the mail any day.  Other than that, I’m just trying to figure out how to arrange furniture in our new house and how to shop without a Target within 45 miles.

Oh hey!  Did I mention we’re having a baby?  He’s due March 7th.  Crazy, yeah?!

We’re looking forward to delving into this new year as we create our place in this world.
